The College Park First UMC congregation reaches out to help those in need in many ways. We give our financial support through offerings to agencies in our community and around the state of Georgia, including Wesley Woods, Action Ministries, and the Airport Interfaith Fund. We contribute to the needs of the homeless and working poor in our community through our Pastor's Discretionary fund as well as Family Life Ministries located in the East Point Presbyterian Church. We host Vacation Bible School each summer for our own congregation's children as well as many other children in our community. Troop 578 of the Boy Scouts of America meets in our gym, as well as a local Alcoholics Anonymous group. Our United Methodist Men, United Methodist Women, and Sunday School Classes are all very active in their outreach ministries, supporting the Savannah Street Mission House, the North Georgia Conference Children's Home, the Murphy Harpst Children's Center, and the Atlanta Day Shelter fro Women and Children, just to name a few. Our United Methodist Men also sponsor quarterly Churchwide Workdays in which all members and friends of the congregation are invited to participate. We have begun with work on projects around the church, but plan to expand into going out for workdays in the community soon.
Music and Arts
The Chancel Choir is made up of adults ages 18 and above. This choir rehearses each Wednesday from 7:00 - 8:30 pm and acts as the service choir for the 11:00 am worship service as well as performing in special concerts at Christmas and Holy Week. We invite you to sing with us! No audition is necessary but an interview with the organist/choirmaster is requested. Please contact Tony Hammer at 770 355 4089 or email him at thammer04@comcast.net.
The Music and Arts Committee's mission is to open the doors of our beautiful Sanctuary in the community by offering several free concerts throughout the year. In the spring of 2006, we welcomed the College of Wooster Symphonic Band, and in November the West Side Winds presented a Holiday Concert. The African-American Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorale offered a Ministry of Music concert on Sunday, April 22 this year, and we look forward to hosting several other exciting musical concerts this year.
